We use Astronomical Units (AU) in place of the very large distances found in the Solar System.
An AU is 149,597,870.7 kilometres and is equal to 8.3 light minutes. This is how far Earth is from the sun on average. The orbit of the Earth varies roughly by 3% as it is elliptical and not circular.
