Too long we have relied on fossil fuels for the generation of electricity. Today, with cheaper access to alternative and renewable technologies we are on the cusp of great change in power generation.
With cheaper access to solar generation technologies for all parts of the world, along with developments in battery technology which have brought the costs of acquiring batteries down we are entering a new era.
But there are challenges. According to the United Nations “the share of renewable energy would need to accelerate substantially to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all” (Tracking SDG7: The Energy Progress Report 2019).
As such Goal 7 of the United Nations Sustainability Goals would ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. Is this happening? How do we ensure that this does happen? What can we do? What can governments do?
