Overarching question: Are the numbers of koalas in the Greater Brisbane area increasing or decreasing?
It would seem that, given the information on the last graph, that the numbers of koalas may be dropping. It is not entirely evident from the data shown here - nothing points directly to it. Further analysis of different types of hospitalised koalas over the last 20 years might show with better clarity an overall trend.
I do suspect that the numbers are going down but this is only 'hearsay'.
Sub-questions:
1 What is the most common way disease or problem that Koalas presented to the hospital with?
Options appear to be: sick, injured, caused by dog, orphaned, under threat, dead, conjunctivitis, cystitis, wasted, sick other, vehicle hit, fall (12 categories)
By far, sick koalas are brought into the hospital. That is koalas were brought in sick compared with the next category injured at koalas brought in.
2 How many koalas hospitalised were more than 4kg - compared with all Adults?
Adult_(More than 4kg) v All Size koalas
As can be seen here there are adult koalas over 4kg in size compared to the whole database which consists of koalas. This means that % are large adult koalas.
3 Compare the koalas found in five suburbs? Which suburb has the most?
Choose any 5 from the JSON file and calculate: Deception Bay, Wellington Point, Yatala, Petrie & North Lakes
Looking at the graph % is Deception Bay, % is Wellington Point, % is Yatala, % is Petrie & % is North Lakes. Thus, we can see that Petrie is way ahead of the others as having more koalas found.
4 In which council area was the conjunctivitis cases the most?
Use the following LGAs: Somerset Regional Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council, Logan City Council, Redland City Council, Brisbane City Council, Ipswich City Council, & Gold Coast City Council
Comparing these 7 LGAs finds that the LGA with the most koalas having Conjunctivits is Redland City Council at % of the chart showing out of the records of these council areas.
5 Using the suburb of Thornlands has the level of sick and injured koalas increased over the years or decreased?
Use 2009, 2014, and 2019 as comparison years.
Showing Thorlands records over years
The sick koalas track from 16 in 2009, to 6 in 2014 and then 2 in 2019. Similar to this are the injured numbers tracking from 3 koalas in 2009, to 2 in 2014 and 2019. This indicates a general downward progression.
